Improvisation in Therapy: Trusting the Unique Flow of Interaction
Date: Every first Wednesday of the month, till the summer
(4 left until the 2nd of June)
As a therapist, you are not just working with a client’s disorder—you are engaging with the whole person. And just as the client encounters the full presence of the therapist, the therapist, too, is fully confronted with the client. This interaction is dynamic, unpredictable, and rich with opportunities for growth. It is in this unfolding moment that creativity and spontaneity become essential tools
Beyond Protocols: The Power of Contextual Improvisation
Traditional therapeutic approaches often emphasize structured exercises and externally designed protocols aimed at treating a diagnosis. While these can be useful, they sometimes overlook the unique and fluid nature of real-life interactions. Contextualism, in contrast, places the therapist at the center of the therapeutic process—not as a passive facilitator of pre-scripted techniques, but as an active participant in a living, breathing exchange. This requires a willingness to improvise, to trust your intuition, and to meet the client where they are, in real-time.
